Hi, I’m Gopi, and I’m running for Ward 3 City Council in Hyattsville, MD! As a mental health counselor, I believe in social justice and the power of individuals to take ownership of their community. In my free time, I have volunteered in the neighborhoods that I have lived in – whether it is walking in a turkey trot, sorting donations at a food bank, or serving as a disaster mental health volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Through these personal and professional experiences, I have learned the importance of listening to what people need and understanding what is important to them as they bring their whole self to the conversation. I will apply these values to being a city council member, so that I can collaborate with Ward 3 residents and focus on your strengths and skills to help facilitate changes and forward growth.

Hola, mi nombre es Gopi y me postulo para ser miembro del Municipio Distrito 3 en Hyattsville, MD. Como terapista, siempre he creído en la justicia social y el poder de las personas para ser dueños de su propia comunidad. En mi tiempo libre he disfrutado haciendo obras de voluntarios en los vecindarios en los que he vivido, ya sea en una carrera comunitaria, o pasando la mañana en un banco de alimentos y hasta sirviendo como voluntario de salud mental en casos de desastre con la Cruz Roja.

A través de estas experiencias personales y profesionales, he aprendido la importancia de escuchar lo que las personas necesitan y comprender lo que es importante para ellas mientras que ellos también sean parte de la conversación. Aplicaré estos valores al ser miembro del municipio, para poder colaborar con los residentes del Distrito 3 y centrarme en sus fortalezas y habilidades para ayudar a facilitar los cambios y avanzar en el crecimiento de nuestro pueblo.
